It's that time of year again — Solana Breakpoint is here! 

This time, Drift launched a BET market for a key Breakpoint debate: Are Celebrity Coins Bad? Iggy Azalea will be debating Eric Wall on the 20th of September from 5.00 - 5.20PM (SGT) at the Left Curve Stage.

Will Iggy Azalea win her debate at Solana Breakpoint 2024? 

In a highly anticipated face-off, Iggy Azalea will debate Eric Wall on “Celebrity Coins Are Bad”. Eric will be speaking in favor, while Iggy will speak in opposition. 

The debate will be judged by a panel of esteemed judges: 

• Andrei Grachev (DWF)
• Mike Dudas (6MV)
• Murad (Trader)
• Sandra Leow (Kaito)
• Yash Agarwal (Superteam)

A big appreciation to these individuals for taking the time to judge the debate.

The judges will individually score the debate, ensuring a fair and comprehensive evaluation.

What is the judging criteria?

The debate will follow a modified parliamentary debate structure. Each speaker will have three segments: Opening, Questions, and Closing. 

The speakers will be evaluated on three main criteria:

1. Matter (40%): Judges will evaluate the logic and relevance of the arguments presented. They'll look for clear, well-reasoned points that directly address the topic, leaving no room for logical leaps or unsubstantiated claims.
2. Manner (40%): Judges will assess each speaker's ability to communicate their arguments clearly and persuasively. One key question will be considered while judging: Can the average attendee follow and engage with the arguments?
3. Method (20%): Judges will evaluate how well speakers organize their thoughts, from opening statements to closing remarks.

Based on the above criteria, the speakers will be scored from 69 to 81 on each criterion for each segment of the debate. The final score will be a weighted sum of these scores, with matter and manner taking the lead. The speaker with the higher cumulative score wins.

The result of the debate is determined by tallying the final verdicts from all the judges. So if 3 of them vote for the proposition speaker and 2 of them vote for the opposition speaker, the result would be 3-2 in favor of the proposition speaker. It's important to note that each judge will individually arrive at a verdict and will not engage in discussions with other judges or anyone else until all the scoring sheets have been turned in.
